i love these.theyre true to size, easy to break in, and sexy as hell.what more could you want?Edit: 5/28/15So it's like 2.5 - 3 years later and these boots are still going strong. They are extremely comfortable now, i remember when i first got them, i was worried that maybe i got the wrong size because of how tight they were across the top of my feet, right at the spot where the tongue is sewed to the main body of the shoe. That tightness went away pretty quickly, i think "i broke them in" in about a week. Now theyre really, truely broken in (like i said, it's been years) and oh my lawd these shoes feel so soft and delicious, they just melt onto your feet like a pat of butter does on a stack of pancakes. lmfao. They truly are extremely comfortable now. Before they felt like boots but now, more like thick soft warm socks (with soles on the bottom, lol) that just caress your feet as you slide them inside.WearOver time, some of the design has come off, but not very much, only around the toes where i frequently scuff them. Also, absolutely do not try to clean these with acetone ( pretty much nail polish remover) because while the shoe will be perfectly fine, the white paint splatter design will smudge and come off INSTANTLY (there's a little smudgy area on one of mine from where i learned that lesson the hard way).Cleaning and Maintenence I did find that it was pretty worthwhile to invest in a dr. martens shoe kit. I'm not sure what it's officially called but that's essentially what it is. It comes with wonder balsam (i think that's a brand thing that dr. martens made up but it seems to be some sort of hydrating wax) that can make shine like new dimes no matter how rough on them you are ( but really polishing them up takes time, elbow grease, and lots of layers of balsam, i usually just put on 2 layers but i'm sure 3 or 4 would be better). Anyway, the kit comes with 2 extra pairs of shoe laces that are the right length for this 10 eye boot (i'm on the 2nd pair of laces that came with them now). It also comes with a bright yellow cleaning/ polishing cloth and some other type of boot polish that i cant remember the name of at the moment. Anyway, the reason i went out of my way to recommend this kit for maintaining this particular pair of boots is that neither of the polishes that come with the kit are tinted. They all go on clear and bring the shine back to your leather and of course the last thing you would want to put on these is traditional black shoe polish because that would just cover up the amazing design on them and probably look a tad odd as well.Motorcycle DuribilityI ride a motocycle year 'round and these shoes held up pretty well for that for about a year and a half of almost constant wear, at that point i began to notice that the tread was wearing down. Now dont get me wrong, there is PLENTY of tread left on those soles. you cant wear through the bottom of these like you can with a pair of converse, however, they just loose traction far too easily now for me to wear them as my main bike shoes anymore, especially in inclement weather. If there is the tiniest bit of moisture on the ground, when i put me feet down at stop lights and such, i'm slipping and losing my grip on the ground because the bottoms of the shoes have just become too smooth. i've never truly slipped and dropped the bike and everything (how embarrassing would that be!) but it's certainly worth mentioning that these dont last too long as motorcycle boots. I can (and do) still wear them (all the time) and if youre not a motorcyclist, i doubt you'll even be able to incur the amount of wear that mine have (they grind up against the pavement as i cruse to a stop and the left one has the same tell tale wear marks that all my left boots have that comes from the pressure and friction of my switching gears with that foot when i drive. If youre just a seasonal rider then you'll get much more that a year and a half out of these, but i put mine though the wringer by riding every day, year round, in the rain, ice, and sun. lol, and on the snowy days i may not have been riding but i was still rocking these.Overall DurabilityI am much harder on my shoes than the average joe but i can say with certitude that these shoes will last me (and you) for years and years. After a while you'll begin to understand how doc martens got their reputation for being indestructible. Even with the harsh, snowy winters these have seen and the hot, dusty summers, and the wet and squishy springs, (and some other thing for fall) they still look incredible, the design is still totally in tact (save for the areas where i always scuff the toes and my little acetone accident). With a little balsam, my neglect ( i rarely clean, shine, or condition the leather. literally once in a blue moon) seems to just wipe away as the gorgeous black leather imbues the moisture and somehow manages to become even more supple then they were when i started. Also, this may seem like common sense, but i'll just thow it out there; just because theyre sturdy and leather doesnt mean theyre water-proof. trust me, theyre not water proof. Now dont get scared, water doesnt hurt them at all and you can certainly wear them on a rainy day and have them keep your feet warm and dry, but if there is a total deluge of water, if it's pooring from the sky in sheet, do yourself a favor and do not strap these boots on unless you like sloshing around with water logged feet. lolOverallAt the end of the day, i stand bt my original review. These shoes rock. They look great, they feel great (the longer you've had them the better they feel. they age like fine wine. haha), theyre totally functional and they'll last you a long, long time. Totally worth the investment, and that's saying a lot coming from a cheapskate like yours truly. If youre on the fence just take the plunge and buy them. you'll regret nothing once theyre on your feet :)The biggest issue I have with these is the material is super thin. It doesn’t make them unwearable, but they’re way thinner (and I assume less durable) than the ones from the 80’s/90’s. I haven’t had this pair long enough to truly test their durability, but they’re still a pain to break-in so I guess that’s a good sign. In the end I like them but I wish they weren’t made in China, as is the way with most things nowadaysLOVE THESE BOOTS!Only a couple small complaints but are no longer an issue for me...I should've probably gone a half size down but I didn't feel like going through the exchange process. They aren't too loose to where it's uncomfortable so I kept them. I wear a thick sock and am fine. They did take about two wears to break them in. My ankle rubbed at first but once broken in they are fine now. Its a firm leather so thats to be expected. The flap/tongue part by the lace is attached to the shoe in a way where it dug into my foot causing great discomfort but once I made a little slit inside it went away. If I were the shoe maker I'd maybe find a way to sew the flap where there isn't so much of a big fold inside. (The other foot was completely fine so maybe it was just that particular shoe.)I would still recommend these boots. I love them and they are now comfortable and I get a lot of compliments on them. No regrets!Well i JUst got my Docs today and i feel that the Forigen made Docs get a bum rap. First off I'm surprised how light they are in comparison to other shoes i have worn for some time. The Sole seems to have a pretty good amount of give to it and aborbs shock well. The leather is still realitively thick, I just have mine broken in it just took a night at work to do it. Now there are some key things to remember with any shoe. Just like tires the softer the tread the quicker its going to wear but its going to stick like glue, Taking care of a pair of shoes is also important, Regular polishings with a good polish will give water resistance and keep them looking good. Letting them dry after they get soaked will help too. I plan to give more information. I got these boots for 5 bucks cheaper here then on the Doc Martins website. Now if you have no problem dropping 220 for made in england thats on you but i know myself personally that i didn't. I feel these are just as good its just Doc Martins customers are a picky lot and want it their way. When i have the extra cash i will try the Solovairs and will report my observations. I will say this people owe it to themselves to give products an honest try before they speak. Just give things a chance before you complainWell I found out how they make a smooth leather. I had a bubble form in my break in line the other day like when you get a paint bubble on a car paint job. After rubbing it for a couple of minutes i found that something flaked off. Turns out they are made of real leather they have some kind of coating on them for appearence. I had to pull as much away as i could and fill the blemish in with shoe polish. nobody is really going to notice it unless they look right at it but still seems kind of strange to me. to add the cloth lining on the inside is starting to peel away from the heel counter as well. A few minor fixes but it shouldnt happen. I can't say enough about the sole though it is really soft and cushiony. I like it so much i might buy a pair of DMs industrial for work cause i need a met guard at work. Turns out Doc Martens had the ironbridge a boot made for exactly the type of job i do. Good boot just with the smooth wasan't a coating but a real black dye.I can wear it at any timeI ordered a half size too big to make sure I had room for thick socks and they fit perfectly. Still breaking them in at the mo, pretty stiff but soft leather always is until softened and shaped to your foot. Quality is fantastic and the sole is really bouncy and comfortable. I got these to wear on the motorbike and they seem sturdy and hard wearing enough. Really good ankle support too. Would highly recommend to anyone.I've worn docs most of my life but must say, even though the quality is there,it's not the boot I remember! If I remember rightly the upper leather was alot thicker and softer, the sole was alot harder and the laces were enough to wrap around the top to prevent you're socks from falling down the boot, that said I can always feather the top so it doesn't cut into me. They haven't detracted far from the classic but you can see the made in England quality isn't there anymore, cheaper, thinner leather with a plastic coating,I shall break these in and update when I'm totally satisfied I can give a more detailed review, nice boots though!Bought these before I went into back surgery. There was a chance I'd lose my mobility and I wanted some psychological motivation to give it all the chances I could. After three months I was walking again. Within a year I had noticed the tread on the boots was going - and recently they have developed cracks that go right through the sole and make the boot unwearable. If a disabled bloke on full PIP mobility can wear a pair completely out within two years - a normal person doesn't stand a chance. Contacted both seller and DM who didn't want to know. DM said they could not identify a manufacturing issue in the soles pictured. At least they employ the blind as well I guess... but that's all they have going for them these days. These people do not deserve their reputation as hard wearing and more importantly - they do not deserve your cash. Avoid.I normally take a 6 in all shoe shops,(clarks,, aldo, next) but having looked at the reviews and they being Unisex Adult boots I ordered a size 5. The fit perfectly. If I had ordered a six they would have been too big. The sizing on some of the shoe products is not made very clear. It would be nice if this could be achieved as people would buy with more confidence. The difference in size between normal ladies sizes and unisex would be useful to know. I am happy with these and they came with an extra pair of laces (yellow) which is nice touch. Wondering if I should order the red, if the price is right but what size? These are 10 eyelet Dr Martens boots.Bought these for my wife as a gift and she was very pleased with them. The package came in the official D.M box with all official logos and stickers. Even though the product was cheaper than the RRP the overall quality was no different than the official DM site. The boots themselves have a shiny leather finish, but not as far as a PVC look. The height is about 6-8 inches above the ankle.Be expected as with all DMs for these to feel a little rugged at first. If you're expecting to put them on and them feel like Ugg Boots, then you haven't had a proper pair of DMs!Overall, great product that when worn in were a great success. I would recommend these to all DM customers. A traditional looking boot that will keep fans of DMs happy.
